Manali to Keylong (3347 Mts.) START OF JEEP SAFARI |
After breakfast we start the Safari. The road leaves Manali and climbs up to the 13,050 feet high Rohtang Pass and then winds down into the Lahaul valley. The landscape changes dramatically, as the lush green hillsides of the Kullu valley are replaced by barren hillsides tapering down to the valley floor. Here tiny villages are skirted with fields of Potato, Barley and Kuth. The trees along the road are few. Enroute we visit the famous ancient Gompa of Khardung. This is the first glimpse of the influence of Buddhism in and ahead of Lahaul. Evening camp will be held at Kargah. |

Patsea to Lacha Lang La Base (5066 mts [top of pass]) |
After a drive through the 4,908 mts. high Baralacha La below which lies a jewel of a lake called the Suraj Taj (Lake of the Sun), and is also one of the sources of the river Bhagha, the drive begins to project the arid, barren landscape of Ladakh. By late evening the base of the Lachu Lang La pass is reached where camp is set up. |

Lachu Lang La Base - Ramsey |
Today the road continues towards the extensive plains of the Kyungshu. Here these plains stretch for almost 42 Kms and there are chances of spotting tiny colonies of Marmots and the wild herds of Kyung a sheep like animal. After the plains a small GREF settlement at Debring is reached, before the breathtaking climb up to the mighty Tang-Lang La begins. Atop the pass, is a tiny temple and a few prayer flags flutter in the strong breezes that are peculiar to this road. By evening the tiny hamlet of Ramsey is reached, an oasis surrounded by barren craggy hills. Camp is held near the village. |
